Dr Charlotte
Douglas

Hello!

My name is Dr Charlotte Douglas. I'm a geneticist and genome editor with a passion for science communication and writing.

I started out my research life during my undergraduate degree with a year studying the genetic underpinnings of embryonic heart defects in Down Syndrome alongside a project on genetic pathways involved in melanoma formation.

Five years later, I completed my PhD developing innovative ways to generate, produce and use CRISPR-Cas9 genetic models by genome editing, with a background in embryology and reproductive biology. A couple of years on, and I became fascinated by the role of genetics in fertility and reproductive health, and I dipped a toe into RNA biology during my postdoctoral fellowship.

Throughout all this I have had a passion for public engagement, events and scientific communication. I have won speaking awards at international scientific conferences as well as run interactive events at New Scientist Live, Discovery Day and Science on Screen, just to mention a few! I have also co-hosted and organised SciComm events such as Pint of Science and scientific conferences.

I am a commissioned writer at BioNews UK and at Life APPS/Lifeology, as well as writing and publishing scientific articles and providing media commentaries. I'm an Aspen Next Gen selected member. I mentor young people with careers advice, providing work experience, and through teaching and providing PhD application support.

How can I help you?
